FCC-SoCal

Families with Children from China-Southern California (FCC-SoCal) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that provides educational, cultural and peer support programs for families who have, or will be, adopting from China. Membership includes more than 500 families residing in Southern California.

From 2008 to 2018, under the title of Communications Chair, I handled all member-related communications and was a one-stop shop for all things digital. During those years I built and maintained two Drupal websites, integrated and administered a CRM (CiviCRM), migrated, enriched and maintained their membership database and mailing list, designed and produced the newsletter, and created registration systems for both new membership and the annual banquet. I also provided training to staff and board members on how to use the platform and maintain records.

Email & Newsletters

Email was the most effective way of delivering information and updates to the membership. The website was supplemental, often supplying additional depth and details. During my years of service, I maintained the FCC-SoCal mail list and produced several hundred newsletters. That task involved gathering detailed information from stakeholders, writing all copy, taking or sourcing photos and doing all web production. I also administered the CiviCRM mail system.

Website

The website needed to serve three audiences - the general public (for information about the organization), prospective parents (to provide essential information about the China adoption process) and the active membership (for information about upcoming events, news and event coverage). The homepage did not need to deliver a sales pitch, but rather provide at a glance to each audience the most relevant information or means to quickly find it.

Banquet Registration

FCC-SoCal has a tradition of holding an annual banquet. I designed an online banquet registration system and integrated it into the Drupal website. It gives members the ability to register groups of any size and distributes the information submitted to the proper event organizers to enable their planning. The banquet also serves as incentive for membership renewal, so special pricing and membership renewal are key components of the registration process.
